Flip It is Concentration - the card game where you turn two cards over at a time and try to remember where everything was. Twenty cards in a five-by-four grid hide ten pairs. Find them all before you use up ten misses.

It runs entirely in the browser tab with no room and no server involved, which makes it the odd one out among the multiplayer games here. That turns out to be its best feature for a team: put it on a shared screen, let everybody call out cards, and have one person click. It becomes a co-op game without anyone needing a link.

How to play Flip It

  1. Enter a display name, or let the game reuse one you have already saved from another game here.
  2. The grid is shuffled and shown face-up for a five second preview. Use it - this is free information and most players waste it.
  3. Click two cards to turn them over. A matching pair stays revealed for the rest of the game.
  4. A mismatch is shown briefly, flips back, and spends one of your ten misses.
  5. Find all ten pairs to win. Spend the tenth miss first and the game ends in a loss.
  6. Either way the end screen shows your elapsed time and offers a freshly shuffled grid.

Strategy and tips

  • During the five second preview, do not try to memorise all twenty cards. Pick one corner - four or six cards - and learn it properly. Partial certainty beats a blur.
  • Work in a reading order rather than clicking around at random. A systematic sweep turns every miss into information you can place; random clicking turns it into noise.
  • When you turn over an unknown card, turn over another unknown one rather than a card you already know is wrong. You learn two positions per miss instead of one.
  • Say the positions out loud if you are playing with a group. Externalising "star, top right" is what makes group play measurably better than solo play, not the extra pairs of eyes.
  • Ten misses is a generous budget for twenty cards, so do not rush. Time is recorded but nothing about it ends the game.

What makes Flip It different

Almost every memory game online is either an app that wants an install or a page that wants an account. This one starts in a second and never asks for either.

The ten-miss budget is the real design choice. Untimed memory games have no pressure and are therefore boring; a strict timer punishes the group discussion that makes them good for teams. A miss budget puts real stakes on carelessness while leaving all the time you want to argue about where the anchor was.

Frequently asked questions

Can several people play Flip It together?

Yes, around one screen. There is no room to join and no link to share - everything is local to the tab - so the group plays co-operatively with one person clicking.

Is the grid the same every time?

No. The pairs are reshuffled with a fresh randomisation every game, including on Play Again.

Does Flip It keep a high score?

It records your finishing time on the end screen. The persistent top-ten lists on this site are kept for the scored games such as 2048, Twine, Blink Shift and Hieroglyph.
