Free daily puzzle games to play in your browser

A shortlist by puzzle type - word, logic, colour, memory - of dailies that take five minutes and are the same for everyone.

A daily puzzle is a specific thing, not just a puzzle you happen to play daily: one puzzle per day, the same for everyone, available for that day only. That constraint is what makes finishing it mean something and what makes comparing results with somebody else worthwhile.

This site runs eight of them across four types, all free, none requiring an account, and each keeping a streak in your own browser rather than on a server. Below them are the best dailies we do not make, by type, with links.

One honest note on what this site is: despite the name, there are no board games here. It is short browser games - mostly solo daily puzzles, plus a few live multiplayer rooms. This page is about the daily half.

The dailies on this site, by type

  1. Hieroglyph

    Daily Picture Puzzle

Word. Five sentences drawn as pictures, one picture per word, ten tries for the whole game. The shared try budget means an early careless guess still hurts four sentences later. Separate Daily and Quick sentence banks so quick games cannot spoil the daily.

  2. Twine

    Daily Connect the Dots Puzzle

Logic. Connect every pair of dots without crossing and fill every single square. The fill-everything rule is what turns it from tracing into a real puzzle, and every daily is verified to have exactly one solution.

  3. Kitty Twine

    Daily Cat Connection Puzzle

Logic, with cats. Identical rules and difficulty to Twine, drawn as pairs of cats in real coat colours, with its own separate daily puzzle and score list. The version to give someone who bounces off abstract grids.

  4. Twine Pics

    Daily Picture Connection Puzzle

Logic, with pictures. Same puzzle again, matched by image rather than by colour - which makes it the one variant that is fully playable with any degree of colour vision deficiency. Its own daily, again separate.

  5. Blink Shift

    Daily Spot the Difference Game

Memory. Memorise a grid, watch it blink, find what changed. Ten rounds, rising difficulty, later rounds swapping colours rather than objects. Nothing is ever auto-submitted - the answer phase is genuinely untimed.

  6. Paint Mix

    Daily Color Mixing Puzzle

Colour. Deduce which of five pigments were mixed to make each of eight targets. Wrong answers show you the colour your own choice would have made, which is why people visibly improve within a single run.

  7. True Colors

    Daily Color Quiz

Colour, one minute. Five swatches, four candidate names each. A vocabulary test rather than a perception test, and the shortest daily here.

The best dailies elsewhere

Grouped by what kind of puzzle they are, because that is how people actually choose. All free to play unless noted.

  • Connections

    Free

Word. Sort sixteen words into four groups of four, with categories designed to overlap and mislead. The best daily puzzle currently running, by some distance.

  • Wordle

    Free

Word. Still free, still the reference point for the whole format, and still worth playing rather than replacing.

  • Waffle

    Free

Word and logic. Fix six overlapping words by swapping letters within fifteen moves. Fully deductive, no guessing from nothing.

  • Nerdle

    Free

Maths. Guess the hidden equation with Wordle-style feedback. The pick if you want the format without the vocabulary.

  • Worldle

    Free

Geography. Name the country from its outline, with distance and bearing hints. Educational almost by accident.

  • Contexto

    Free, ad-supported

Word and semantics. Unlimited guesses ranked by closeness to a secret word. Absorbing, and much longer than the five-minute dailies around it.

  • Puzzmo

    Freemium

A full daily suite - crossword, word and logic games - with the best presentation in the category. Free tier is generous; the subscription unlocks the archive.

Building a daily routine that lasts

Pick two or three, not ten. The people who still have a streak a year later play a small fixed set at a fixed time; the people who bookmark fifteen dailies stop within a fortnight.

Mix the types. A word daily and a logic daily use different parts of your attention, and a run of five word games in a row is what makes the whole routine feel like homework.

Streaks on this site are stored in your own browser against your local date, so they survive travelling across timezones but not clearing your site data or switching device. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to lose.

Frequently asked questions

When does the daily puzzle change?

At local midnight in your timezone. Everyone in the same timezone plays the same puzzle for that calendar day.

Are the daily puzzles here free?

Yes, all of them, with no account and no limit on how many you play. Each game also has a Quick mode for unlimited extra puzzles outside the daily.

Do I keep a streak?

Yes, per game, stored in your own browser. Completing the daily counts - you do not have to win it. A gap of two or more days breaks the current streak, but your longest is kept.
